Nap Time

Ever since we have moved here to Driggs it has been tricky trying to figure out Afton's sleeping habits. When we moved we thought it would be a good time to take her out of her crib, but it has proven very tricky. She used to be our easiest child to put to sleep. We would walk in her room and lay her down in her crib with a hug, kiss, and a song and then walk out. She wouldn't make a peep. Night time is also hard. Since we don't have the crib, she will get up and get in bed with the other kids, preventing them from sleeping and keeping everyone up way to late. So I decided that I would have to lay by her in her bed until she fell asleep then I would leave. Well, it would take over an hour each night, and day!! I don't know about you, but I love my quite nights, and I don't have an hour everyday...I was going CRAZY staying in there that long. I finally took her bed out of that room, and into mine. So now she will just lay down and go to sleep at night. But I was still trying to figure out Naps, because it didn't work in the daytime. The only thing that could work sometimes was to either fall alseep to a show, skip it all together, or while we were driving. One day I was going to take her for a drive and have her fall asleep, but I buckled her into her car seat and had forgotten to get my keys. When I had gotten back she was already asleep...no driving. So the next day I decided to try the same trick. I would buckle her in her seat, walk away and when I would come back she was out. So now this has been my means of nap time here in Driggs. Luckily it is warm, but not too hot. I leave the doors open and my front door open and the car is right there. It is quite funny, but it works. When she wakes up she calls for me, and I go and unbuckle her.

FHE

Since we have moved here to Driggs we are up in the Canyon as much as we can. We decided to do dinner up there and have FHE. We made dinner simple, roasted hot dogs, and had smores of course. We all had such a good time. Every place you go in the canyon seems to be our new favorite spot. They are all so beautiful, with shade trees, the river, and peaceful surroundings. We did our homework around the fire, while Scott got to making Avery a bow and arrow. The boys got to shoot Scotts BB gun, and Afton and I threw stuff in the river. About a hundred yards from our fire ring we saw a fresh pile of bear scat. It was not hot, but it was still soft. Freaky...and cool. The kids also found a whirlpool right by a log damming up part of the river. They would collect leaves and watch them be sucked under and disappear. It was such a great night. I love it here, and the best part of all is how close to home we still are.

Table Top Mountain

Went on a beautiful hike last weekend ALONE, and had so much fun. I didn't see anyone almost the whole time and it was beautiful. Scott had the kids, and I decided that I needed a little adventure of my own. This trail is only 15 min from my house. I didn't make it to the top because I ran out daylight, but I am hoping to be able to hike it before the winter hits. I absolutely love the area of Driggs. I am so lucky!!

Cade is in Preschool

So this year Cade is in a joy school here two days a week. He LOVES it and I am so happy to see him engaged in school activities with kids his age. He loves to be with others, and it has been really hard for him to have both Avery and Crew gone at school all day. (It has been hard for me too) He is the most happy and sweet boy you could meet. He has the ability to play with any object and make believe it into anything he wants. He truly loves life, and his smile and kisses make my heart melt. Scott and I used to joke about how it was so hard to tell him NO, because he is just so cute. Really I do tell him NO, but it is HARD. He takes care of Afton and I in the day when he is the "only boy." He gets Afton out of her car seat for me, opens doors, brings in groceries, and even vacuums. I really can't believe that he is four already and going to be going to Kindergarten next year. Where does the time go?

We were in Utah a few weeks ago dropping off our car to have Scott's brother sell it for us, while we tried to get a truck for the Idaho winters. While we were out and about we decided to stop by Scott's Grandpa's to say hello. He is such an amazing man and has done so much in his life. He lost his wife and one true love 30 years ago to cancer and it is so neat to see that even though he would love nothing more than to be with her, he has still managed to do so much service for others. Afton was the only one with us, and she had lots of fun getting all the attention.

Potty Training???

So Afton is going to be 2 at the end of October, and really I have not even thought about potty training yet. I was going to wait until after she was two for sure, but she has different plans. She has been insisting that she sit on the potty and go pee like the others, and then when she poops, she politely takes off her clothes and diaper and comes and brings it to me. She is sooo proud of herself, just look at that smile.....but as we all know this is not how it works and it is so gross. I have been trying to distract her from wanting to be potty trained, and will even tell her just to go in her diaper...but i am losing the battle. I guess I am going to have to take the plunge sooner or later, but I am STILL not convinced that my baby girl is ready. Maybe I am in denial.
